Students at CCMS are engaging in learning American Sign Language (ASL) as part of their classroom activities this year. Under the guidance of Mrs. Roudis and Miss DeKruiff, students are practicing ASL every morning with the Deaf/Hard of Hearing teacher, Miss DeKruiff. The curriculum includes learning signs for numbers, colors, animals, and small phrases.
The initiative aims to foster inclusivity for students with different communication needs within the classroom and school environment. Additionally, Miss DeKruiff has established an ASL club that convenes weekly to provide the broader school community with opportunities to practice sign language and enhance communication skills.
"Mrs. Roudis and Miss DeKruiff are promoting inclusivity in the classroom and within our school for students with different communication needs."
Miss DeKruiff's efforts include forming an ASL club that meets once a week, allowing everyone in the school community to engage in sign language practice.
