Coaler Speech Team triumphs at Waubonsie Valley tournament

The Coaler Speech Team achieved a significant victory at the Waubonsie Valley "The Reel Thing" Tournament, securing first place with a total of 477 points. Madison Wilson led the team by finishing first in radio speaking and earning third place in dramatic interpretation.

Other team members also received medals at the January 11 event. Melody Kinder won second place in original oratory and fourth place in poetry. Corinna Barkley secured second place in special occasion speaking. The duo Gio Bruno and Mayson Wantroba finished second in dramatic duet acting, while Jaiden Leman claimed second in extemporaneous speaking. Jacob Cimino took second place in impromptu, Jordan Olson was third in prose, Grey Vanek earned third in humorous interpretation, Caroline Childers came third in prose and sixth in poetry, Deborah Lynch placed fourth in informative speaking and oratorical declamation, and Juliet Covington finished fourth in original comedy.

Several participants advanced to the finals: Jordan Olson and Olivia Sage for dramatic duet acting; Lilliana Aguirre for humorous interpretation; and Liam Seeley for informative speaking.

The Coalers are scheduled to compete again on Wednesday, January 15, when they will host the Illinois Central Eight Conference Tournament. The first round is set to begin at 5 p.m.
