Manufacturing Day, a career exploration initiative for high school students, was recently observed in Illinois. The event, part of the Manufacturing Institute's efforts, is officially held on the first Friday of October. In Illinois, it coincides with Manufacturing Month as recognized by the state's Manufacturers' Association.
On October 8th, the Three Rivers Manufacturers’ Association (TRMA), in partnership with Joliet Junior College, hosted its 8th Annual MFG Day at their events center. The event saw participation from 27 career and technical education students from Coal City High School.
Students engaged with industry professionals to learn about careers in manufacturing and related fields. Over 50 companies and trade organizations participated in the event. Additionally, students had discussions with education professionals about pursuing STEM-related careers through certificate programs or degree courses.
“Our goal is to provide the students with the resources to end up in a place that matters which could include a rewarding career in manufacturing,” stated TRMA.
The event offered hands-on experiences such as welding simulations, operating machinery with joysticks, and performing rigging lifts. Coal City students also participated in a Jeopardy game and returned to school with prizes.
