Coal City High School art students create sculptures exploring form
Mark Fiske, Visual Arts | Coal City Community Unit School District 1

Last week, students in Mr. Fiske’s Art Foundations class at Coal City High School worked with clay to create three-dimensional animals and imaginary creatures. The students used hand-building and modeling techniques, including pinching, coiling, using slabs, and the scoring and slipping method.

Mr. Fiske commented on the progress of his students: “Watching these sculptures come to life has been amazing—each one has so much personality! So proud of their creativity, patience, and attention to detail as they learn how to turn 2D ideas into forms you can walk around and touch.”
