Over the past week, sixth grade students at Coal City Middle School have been engaged in a project called “Battle of the Gods” as part of their social studies curriculum. The assignment is designed to deepen students’ understanding of Ancient Egypt by having them research and present on various Egyptian gods and goddesses.
Each group selected a deity and spent time researching aspects such as background information, relationships with other gods, roles, and powers. The objective was for each group to persuade their classmates that their chosen god or goddess was the most significant.
“Each group had to really focus on choosing facts that had persuasive power while leaving an impact on their audience. It was quite interesting to see how each group worked as a team to gain votes from their classmates. Overall, I’m really proud of how well the groups worked together,” Mrs. Clark said of her students.
The project aims not only to build knowledge about ancient civilizations but also encourages teamwork and persuasive communication among students.
