Coal City High School's Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) chapter participated in the Central Northern Area Conference at Joliet Junior College on December 13. The school had 17 members competing in various events, including tests, presentations, and interviews.
Fourteen members from Coal City secured positions to advance to the state FBLA competition scheduled for spring 2025 by achieving either first or second place finishes.
First place winners included Grace Sitar in Introduction to Event Planning; Corinna Barkley and Lilly Feisley in Public Service Announcement; Mason Hamilton and Gaven Vestal in Sports and Entertainment Management; and Kylee Kennell and Payton Gibson in Sales Presentation.
Second place was earned by Jessie Henke in Agribusiness; Emerson Koehn, Adalyn Muhlenbruch, and Rese Symons in Introduction to Business Presentation; as well as Hayden Kennell, Fuzzy Hamilton, and Patrick Osipavicius in Introduction to Social Media Strategy.
Hunter Pedigo finished third in the Job Interview category. Special recognition was given to Mason Hamilton and Hunter Pedigo for their participation in the Battle of the Chapters event.
Advisor Harlan Kennell remarked on the success of this year's conference for Coal City: "This year’s Central Northern Area Conference was a success for Coal City, and advisor Harlan Kennell said they hope to carry the momentum to the State Leadership Conference in April."
