Second and third-grade students at Coal City Elementary School are learning to play precorders, an activity that music teacher Ann Kodat says aids in developing various skills. These include reading music, listening to match others, self-facilitated practice, and motor skill development.
Ann Kodat expressed her enthusiasm about the integration of fourth and fifth graders into the building. "One of my favorite things about the fourth and fifth graders moving into our building is that the beginning band is here," she said. The band director, Mr. Brimm, will occasionally bring small groups to perform in elementary school music classes.
Kodat also mentioned her ongoing efforts to organize a friendly competition. “I keep trying to talk him into a 'Hot Cross Buns' competition once second grade reaches that level [on precorder],” she noted.
