Born on August 18, 1940, in Lockport, Illinois, John was the son of John and Victoria Mikula. He graduated from Lockport Township High School and enjoyed a 35-year career at Caterpillar Tractor Company in Joliet before retiring in 1995. He then ran Victoria's Antique Shop in Coal City, immersing himself in antiques and flea markets.
Notably, John exhibited his craftsmanship by building his home from the ground up in Goose Lake in 1974 and engaged in remodeling projects for various residences. He was an active member of the Goose Lake Club, Coal City Area Club, Fraternal Order of Eagles, and Loyal Order of Moose in Morris. Known for his laughter and quick wit, John was a devoted fan of the Chicago Cubs and Bears, enjoyed card games and puzzles, and made cherished memories at Fitzgerald's Motel in Wisconsin Dells with his family.
Survived by his wife Sharon Mikula and a large family including five children, 12 grandchildren, and nine great-grandchildren, John left a lasting impact on the community and his loved ones.
John's request for cremation rites reflects his pragmatic approach to life.
A memorial visitation will take place at Peace Lutheran Church in Morris on Saturday, January 25, 2025, from 9:00 a.m. until the time of the memorial service at 12:00 p.m.
