Coal City Middle School recently achieved recognition at the IVC Conference Spelling Bee. Eighth-grader Liam Allen emerged as the champion, showcasing his spelling abilities among 29 participants at Channahon Junior High.

The school also secured a commendable second place overall, bolstered by the impressive performances of students Remii Yott and Reagan Jeschke. "It was an amazing accomplishment for Liam to take first place, and Coal City take second," expressed Mrs. Sweeney and Mrs. Sobieck, the school's spelling bee sponsors.

The path to the conference bee was paved with school-level achievements. In the in-house competition, seventh-grader Remii Yott secured the top spot, while Liam Allen and sixth-grader Reagan Jeschke finished second and third, respectively, among nine contenders.

The school also saw participation from sixth graders Kamden Gabehart, Elle Gordon, and Lily Harding; seventh graders Landyn Pierard and Addison Skaggs, and eighth grader Jackson Dvorak. Mrs. Sweeney and Mrs. Sobieck voiced their pride: "It takes a great deal of courage to stand in front of an audience and spell difficult words. To say the least, it was an amazing season to be a part of," they noted.

Coal City Middle School continues to celebrate the hard work and dedication of its students in the field of spelling.
