Coal City High School awards over $79K in local scholarships

Coal City High School held its annual Scholarship Awards Night on Wednesday, May 7. The evening was set aside to recognize members of the senior class who have been awarded one of more than 38 local scholarships. In all, over 30 members of the class of 2025 received financial awards totaling over $79,970.

Aimee Gerhardt Outstanding Human Scholarship—$1,000 each—was presented by Debbie Davis to Kylee Kennell, Chloe Pluger, Mackenzie Croxton and Naomi Rodriguez.

Bob’s Advanced Auto and Tire Scholarship—$1,000 each—was presented by owner Debbie Davis to Addison Hodgen and Alaina Morales.

Bank of Pontiac Scholarship—$1,500—was presented to Will Johnke by bank employees Lillian Ullrich and Jack Fillenwarth.

Berkot's Foundation Scholarship—$1,000—was presented by Coal City store manager Gary Onsen to Kylee Kennell.

Coal City Community Unit Education Association Teacher Scholarship—$500—was presented to Aylianna Castle.

Coal City Alumni Memorial Scholarship—$300—was presented to Naomi Rodriguez.

Coal City Athletic Boosters Scholarships—$7,500 in total—were awarded to Naomi Rodriguez, D’Arcy Ness, Corinna Barkley, Calleigh VandeWerken, Emma Rodriguez, Will Johnke, Dylan Young, Alec Waliczek, Trevor Perino, Landin Benson, Chloe Pluger, Madi Petersen and Kylee Kennell.

Coal City Lions Club Scholarship—$300—was presented by club member Chuck Dennison to Kylee Kennell.

Coal City Music Boosters Rodgers Cumming Scholarship—$500—was awarded to Melody Kinder by booster officer Racheal Cimino.

Coal City Music Boosters Mark Larmon Scholarship--$500--was awarded Vincenzo Mugnolo by booster officer Racheal Cimino.
