Shirley Boero, age 95, of Coal City, Illinois, passed away peacefully on August 18, 2025, at ARC at Dwight. She was known for her longstanding career as a fifth-grade teacher at Braceville Grade School, dedicated volunteer work, and active role in her local church.

Shirley, born on July 7, 1930, to parents Charlie and Alice Watters, dedicated her life to education and community service. She earned her teaching degree from Lewis University and taught for 15 years before retiring in 1990. She was also extensively involved in volunteer organizations such as the Red Cross and Homemakers Education Association.

A devoted member of Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary Roman Catholic Church, Shirley participated in various church activities, including singing in the choir and serving as a Lay Minister of Care. She will be remembered for her love of spending time with family, playing cards, and her passion for helping others.

Shirley is survived by her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband Lou, sons Charlie and Christopher, and several siblings.

A visitation will be held at Assumption Parish in Coal City on Saturday, August 23, 2025, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial presided over by Rev. Josh Miller. Burial will take place at Mount Olivet Catholic Cemetery in Braidwood alongside her husband. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Assumption BVM Church in Coal City or a charity of choice.
