Second and third grade students at Coal City Elementary School spent October engaged in a variety of pumpkin-themed activities in their library, led by Mrs. Erhard.
“We kicked off the month with a paper pumpkin decorating contest. We had 116 students participate, students and staff participated in a blind vote on which ones they liked best. So much creativity,” Mrs. Erhard said.
During the month, students also read "Pumpkin Jack" by Will Hubbell and began a project studying the life cycle of pumpkins. The pumpkins used for this year's study were grown from seeds planted during last year's project.
“We will watch and compare one carved pumpkin vs. one uncarved pumpkin decompose and hopefully result in next year's pumpkins,” Mrs. Erhard said.
