In Mrs. Krippel’s pre-algebra class at Coal City Middle School, students are learning to solve linear equations by applying inverse operations. The instructional approach focuses on helping students understand how to isolate the variable X in an equation, emphasizing a step-by-step process that involves addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division.
"Using the power of inverse operations [aka the 'undo' button of math], they add, subtract, multiply, and divide their way to isolate X — because X deserves some alone time," said Mrs. Krippel.
This teaching method is designed to strengthen foundational algebra skills among middle school students.
