Students in Mr. Nicholson’s science class at Coal City Middle School recently participated in a hands-on project to learn about the rock cycle. Each student was given pieces of Starburst candy to represent rocks and was tasked with moving their “rocks” through each stage of the rock cycle.

During the activity, students stopped at each step to draw diagrams illustrating what happens during that part of the process. After completing all stages, students were allowed to eat their candy “rocks.”

Mr. Nicholson said this approach helped make the lesson more interactive for his students.
