The Coal City High School Choirs held their annual winter concert on Tuesday, December 2, at the Coal City Performing Arts Center. The event, themed "A Winter’s Night," featured a selection of seasonal songs.
The Coaler Choir opened the evening with “One Horse Open Sleigh,” a new arrangement of “Jingle Bells.” They also performed “Snow on Snow” by Andy Beck, with student Jaiden Leman accompanying on piano.
Coal City’s Footnotes show choir followed with “Jingle Bell Rock.” The Concert Singers presented four pieces: “What Were You Thinking,” based on the “12 Days of Christmas,” as well as “Ding-a Ding-a Ding,” “Above the Weary Waiting World,” and concluded with Peter Angela’s “Jubilate Deo.”
Matthew Felbein directs all Coal City Choirs. The concert also included a performance by the Coal City High School Madrigals, who sang three songs from their upcoming annual Madrigal concert. This event is scheduled for December 13 at 7 p.m. and December 14 at 2 p.m., also in the Performing Arts Center. Tickets are $12 per person at the door and include hors d'oeuvres and dessert served 45 minutes before each performance.
The next music department event will be on Thursday, December 4, featuring fifth and sixth grade bands under Andrew Brimm's direction. Additional winter concerts include high school bands performing on Tuesday, December 9; middle school band concerts set for Tuesday, December 16; and a middle school choir concert on Thursday, December 18. All performances start at 7 p.m. in the Performing Arts Center.
