Fifth graders learn coordinate graphing with Snoopy-themed activity

Fifth-grade math class | Coal City Intermediate School

Students in Mr. Leve's fifth-grade math class have been exploring the concept of coordinate graphing. This method visually represents relationships between numbers on a grid formed by two perpendicular lines, known as axes. The horizontal line is referred to as the X-axis, while the vertical line is the Y-axis. Their intersection point is called the origin.

Numbers on this grid help locate points identified by ordered pairs consisting of an x-coordinate and a y-coordinate, written as (x-coordinate, y-coordinate). This system resembles the board game Battleship by Milton Bradley.

In their recent activities, Mr. Leve's students applied coordinate graphing to create a back-to-school image of Snoopy by plotting and connecting various points.
