Coal City Middle School students tackle rational numbers and proportions

In Mr. Larson's first-hour math class at Coal City Middle School, students have been focusing on using integer rules with rational numbers. They are preparing for an assessment on rational numbers. Following this, they will start a unit on rates, ratios, and proportions. In this new unit, students will learn to find unit rates and connect them to the constant of proportionality as represented in tables, graphs, and equations.

Meanwhile, Mr. Larson's third and fourth-hour math classes are currently engaged in their unit on rates, ratios, and proportions. Students are identifying the constant of proportionality in various forms such as graphs, equations, and tables. They are grasping that the constant of proportionality is equivalent to the unit rate. This week marks the conclusion of this unit before they move on to studying expressions and learning about the distributive property.
