The Coal City Intermediate School Beginning Band has been diligently learning music on their instruments throughout the school year. On Thursday, December 5, they showcased their skills in their first band concert alongside the Coal City Middle School Cadet Band. The performance included songs featuring complex rhythms and the band's first five notes. Among the pieces played were “Hot Bundt Cakes,” “Beethoven’s Joy,” and “Jingle Bells.” The band members expressed enjoyment while performing for their families and community.
The band engages in group sectionals to address unique challenges for each instrument group and refine their songs. This month, they also performed for various classes, including Mrs. Kodat’s music classes, providing students with an opportunity to play in small groups and gain experience performing before an audience.
“We hope you can make it out to our next performance at the Coal City Fine Arts Festival on Sunday, Feb. 23 from 1-4 pm at Coal City High School,” said director Andrew Brimm.
