Coal City School District participates in Rare Disease Day with fundraising initiative
Rare Disease Day | Unit District #1 Coal City

The Coal City School District is set to participate in Rare Disease Day on February 28, aiming to raise awareness of over 6,000 identified rare diseases. The initiative also supports the 300 million individuals living with these conditions, including those within the local community.

Rare diseases affect fewer than one in 2,000 people. It is reported that 70 percent of these conditions begin in childhood and 72 percent are genetic.

Angela Roudis, a teacher at Coal City Middle School, is organizing this year's event. As part of the fundraiser, the school is selling T-shirts and sweatshirts featuring the Rare Disease logo and national theme, “More Than You Can Imagine,” which participants will wear on February 28.

The community is encouraged to contribute by purchasing clothing items or making donations. All proceeds will support a local family with medical and travel expenses. Orders for shirts must be submitted by Wednesday, February 19. To place an order or donate, individuals can use the QR code provided or click on the designated link.
