Coal City School District awards student artists at Fine Arts Festival

The Coal City Community Unit School District 1 hosted its annual Fine Arts Festival on February 23. This event highlighted the artistic talents of students in the district, showcasing works from fourth to twelfth graders.

Numerous students were recognized with art show ribbons for their creations across various categories. In the Intermediate School, Ava Santos and Ella Frashier received the Principal Award for fourth and fifth grades, respectively. Blaine Poeschel earned Best of Show in Rothko Emotional Color, while Everett Proffit was awarded Best of Show in Sun & Moon Weavings. Other notable mentions include Brady Loughran in Alebrijes and Kassie Valdez in Koi Fish Watercolor.

In the Middle School division, Ana Brassard received the Principal’s Award for her Temperature Contrast Logo. Izzy Herrera was awarded Best of Show for her piece titled "Statue of Liberty’s Burning Passion." Students such as Lilly Harney and Jaycob Wilson were also recognized for their contributions in categories like Identity Letter and Coil Pot.

High School accolades included Avery McConnell receiving the Principal’s Choice award. Mackenzie Messina took first place for Best of Portfolio, with Leo McCants and Madi Petersen following closely behind. Adia Serna's work was prominently featured across several categories including Art Foundations and Surrealism.

Art instructors Rebecca Bajt, Amy Siefken, Mark Fiske, and photography instructor Rebecca Bajt guided these talented students throughout their creative endeavors.
