Coal City Intermediate School hosted its annual fifth-grade cupcake launch on May 14. The event, as reported by science teacher Jennifer Rink, was deemed successful with a variety of creative launchers.

Students participated in two categories: traditional launchers and air-powered launchers. The objective was to propel a cupcake the farthest distance across the elementary school campus.

In the traditional launcher category, Aubree Becker's "Becker Ejector" claimed first place with a distance of 162.6 feet. Second place went to "Ka-Bluey" by Jack Gagliardo and Leo Christensen, achieving 121.5 feet. Third place was awarded to "Super Launcher" by Skyler Crist and Genevere Diaz, reaching 117.1 feet.

For the air-powered launcher category, Bryson Nichols and Landon Hardy secured first place with their launcher "US Cupcake," which traveled a distance of 80 feet.

Jennifer Rink expressed satisfaction with the event's outcomes and praised the students' efforts in creating innovative designs for their cupcake launchers.
