Marching Coalers earn second place at NIU contest, best finish since 2013

The Marching Coalers from Coal City Community Unit School District 1 earned second place at the Red and Black Fall Classic, held last weekend at Northern Illinois University. Competing in the 1A division against six other bands from the Chicagoland area, the band performed selections from their field show "Rearrange," featuring music by Jeff Chambers, "The Sound of Silence" by Disturbed, and "Hide and Seek" by Imogen Heap.

This achievement marks the highest placement for the marching band since 2013. The group also tied for first place in both Music and Visual General Effect categories. The Marching Coalers will continue their season with upcoming performances at the Downers Grove South Mustang Bowl on October 4 and the Lincoln-Way Marching Band Invitational on October 18. They are also scheduled to participate in the annual Grundy County Corn Festival Parade this Sunday afternoon in downtown Morris.
