Coaler seniors celebrated during senior night festivities

Calleigh VanderWerken | Coal City Community Unit School District 1

Calleigh VanderWerken, Ella Edwards, and Sydney Hughes were honored on Senior Night for their contributions to the cheerleading squad. Calleigh VanderWerken joined the team in her junior year and has been a positive influence. She is also involved in Coalers with Character and the National Honor Society. On Senior Night, she was accompanied by her parents Megan and Steve VandeWerken. After graduation, she plans to pursue a nursing major.

Ella Edwards has been a member of the cheer squad for four years, supporting both football and basketball teams. She also participates in the school's competition cheer team. This spring, she will try out for soccer. Her escorts on Senior Night were Gabby and Darius Regan and Joshua and Jenny Edwards. Ella will graduate with a cosmetology license and aims to continue her education at Joliet Junior College to become an MRI technician.

Sydney Hughes has also been part of the cheerleading squad for four years, cheering for football and basketball teams while participating in the competition cheer squad. Her parents Jamie and Jon Hughes escorted her on Senior Night. Sydney plans to attend Joliet Junior College to study psychology and hopes to join the college's cheer squad.
