In a recent event celebrating Thanksgiving, Mrs. Owensby's class joined forces with Mrs. Rhodes and Mrs. Phillips' class for a unique feast that aimed to foster community spirit and gratitude among students. The celebration featured students taking on the roles of Pilgrims and Native Americans, reminiscent of the historic gathering that inspired the holiday.
A key part of the event was a collaborative snack-making activity guided by the poem "Thanksgiving Story Mix." This poem introduced various ingredients symbolizing elements from the first Thanksgiving story. Dried cranberries represented “the berries Squanto taught the pilgrims to find,” pretzel rods stood for “logs to build their homes,” and chocolate chips symbolized “bittersweet life.” After preparing this special snack mix, students shared it during their feast.
The atmosphere was lively as children exchanged stories and laughter, reinforcing community bonds and mutual understanding. This activity highlighted Thanksgiving's core values: gratitude, cooperation, and unity. By recreating the spirit of that initial feast, students not only celebrated history but also forged lasting friendships and memories.
