Early Childhood Center students in Coal City engaged in a month-long series of dinosaur-themed activities, blending learning with play. Mrs. Planeta, who serves as both librarian and PE aide at the center, expressed her enthusiasm for combining her roles: “Being a librarian and PE aide at the same time is a unique position, and I love when Mr. Petersen and I can bring the two together.”
The activities included readings of "What the Dinosaurs Did at School," with toy dinosaurs making daily appearances throughout various school locations like the library, gym, lunchroom, and halls. Students participated in games such as “Duck, Duck, Dinosaur,” “Extinction,” and “Dinosaur Yoga,” which is Mrs. Planeta’s personal favorite.
The month concluded with an event called "DiNO-vember." Mrs. Planeta explained: “We ended DiNO-vember with a ‘drawer of no return' party in the library to introduce the students to flexible seating, manipulatives, and get their own dinosaur name. We also had a scavenger hunt to find 15 dinosaurs loose in the school before they went back home.”
