At Coal City Middle School, students are participating in a "Leave the technology behind" exploratory unit. This initiative focuses on developing new skills by enhancing fine motor abilities and fostering coordination between the brain and hands.
As part of the curriculum, students are learning to sew buttons onto fabric and execute basic stitches. Some participants have progressed to repairing clothing and bags using these sewing techniques. In addition to sewing, the program includes lessons in crocheting, sculpting, painting, and building with plans and designs.
The school aims to encourage practical skill development through hands-on activities, moving away from digital reliance.
