The Coal City High School Girls Tennis team narrowly lost two non-conference matches against LaSalle-Peru and Ottawa Township, both ending with 3-2 scores. The team was led by Becca Hall at No. 1 Singles and Kyla Kohler at No. 2 Singles, who secured all four of the Coalers' victories in the two contests.
Coach Matt Leman said, "Becca, No. 1 Singles, and Kyla, No. 2 Singles, were nothing short of spectacular, delivering all four victories for the Coalers across the two contests."
In their match against LaSalle-Peru, Becca Hall defeated Ella Lannen with a score of 6-0, 6-2. Kyla Kohler won her match against Meredith Politsch after two tiebreakers with scores of 6-0, 6-4.
Facing Ottawa Township, Hall continued her performance by beating Savannah Fredericksen 6-1, 6-1. Kohler won another close contest against Reese Purcell with tiebreaker sets ending at 7-6 (5), 7-6 (5).
Despite these singles wins, Coal City was unable to win any doubles matches in either contest. Both opponents swept all six doubles matches to secure their overall victories.
The Lady Coalers now hold a season record of 10-8 as they prepare for the IHSA Sectionals on October 17.
