Coal City, IL - William Howard Gill, 77, of Coal City, Illinois, passed away peacefully at his home on July 29, 2025, surrounded by his family. Born on November 2, 1947, in Joliet, Illinois, William was the son of Robert and Helen Gill.

William, known as Bill, was a dedicated educator who spent his career teaching English in the Chicago Public High Schools. He took pride in guiding his students with a passion for language and literature. Bill was a loyal employee at Commonwealth Edison, where he formed lasting friendships.

He married Mary Ann Zilske on August 2, 1969, at Saint Rose Catholic Church in Wilmington, embarking on a journey of love and parenthood that lasted 55 years. Bill was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather who took great joy in family activities and sporting events.

His commitment extended beyond his career and family, as Bill was actively involved in supporting local organizations, youth sports, and the wellness of the community. He spent countless hours coaching youth football and baseball teams, score keeping for the Coal City Coaler high school football team, and engaging in various charitable endeavors.

Bill found solace in the beauty of nature, especially while fishing and boating, or simply relaxing at home while exploring his family history. An exceptional cook, he delighted in preparing meals for loved ones and football coaches, showcasing his culinary expertise.

Known for his generous spirit and impactful presence, Bill will be remembered for his unwavering love, kindness, and support for his family and community. His legacy of dedication and service will endure through those whose lives he touched.

Memorial visitation for William H. Gill will be held on Monday, August 4, 2025, at Reeves Funeral Home in Coal City, with a memorial service following officiated by Ken P. Miller. Private interment with military honors will take place at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery in Elwood, alongside his beloved wife, Mary Ann.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Coal City Unit #1 Educational Foundation in Bill's memory.
