Four juniors from Coal City High School have been chosen to represent the communities of Coal City, Diamond, Carbon Hill, and Goose Lake at the 76th Annual Grundy County Corn Festival. The students selected by their peers are Avery Housman, Nettie Connor, Gabrielle VanDuyne, and Alivia Waliczek.

The queen coronation will take place on Wednesday, September 24 at 5:30 p.m. in downtown Morris. The candidates will also participate in the Corn Festival parade scheduled for Sunday, September 28 at 2 p.m. Both the Coal City High School and Middle School marching bands will be part of the parade. The festival is set to run from September 24 to 28 in Morris.

Coal City Community Unit School District 1 includes schools such as Coal City Early Childhood Center, Coal City Elementary School, Coal City Intermediate School, Coal City Middle School, and Coal City High School. The district serves both Grundy and Will counties (https://www.illinoisreportcard.com/).

According to data from the Illinois State Board of Education, there are 153 teachers in the district with an average salary of $69,297 before pension contributions; women make up nearly 78 percent of the teaching staff while men account for about 22 percent.
