Coal City High School’s tennis team secured a strong victory at the Coaler Quad on Saturday, September 6, with a total of 10 wins and 170 games. Senior Rebecca Hall led the team with an undefeated record at the #1 singles position. Hall first faced Mendota’s Ella Lewis in a close match, winning 10-6, then followed up with a 10-0 win against Gibson City-Melvin-Sibley’s Charity Miguel.
Other notable performances included newcomer Sophia Spoto, who went undefeated at #3 singles, and the #2 doubles team of Kamryn Hansen and Bridget Feeney, who also remained unbeaten and contributed 30 games to the overall score. The Coalers’ teamwork and consistent play were highlighted as key factors in their success.
The event concluded with Coal City defeating Mendota by a score of 10-6 and shutting out Gibson City-Melvin-Sibley.
Looking ahead, the varsity tennis team is scheduled to play away at Plainfield South on Monday, September 8 at 4 p.m., while the junior varsity team will host Plainfield South at home.
