Coalers boys golf team posts back-to-back top scores against Reed-Custer

The Coal City Boys Golf Team achieved another strong performance on Wednesday, defeating Reed-Custer with a score of 169-196. The team posted a season-best score of 168 for the second consecutive evening.

Individual highlights included Frankie Ponio and Jaxon Duke, who both recorded scores of 39, marking a season best for Ponio. Reed Suzberger also achieved his best score of the season with a 43. Other team members contributing were Cody Scheer (47), Kory Lovell (48), and Trevor Walker (49).

Coach Harlan Kennell commented on the team's progress: “I am extremely proud of how dedicated and hardworking this young group of freshman and sophomores have been this season, and it is great to see it start paying off as the season nears the end.”

Coal City Community Unit School District 1, which covers Grundy and Will counties, includes several schools such as Coal City High School where these athletes compete. According to data from the Illinois State Board of Education, there are 153 teachers in the district with an average salary of $69,297; most are women, and none had more than ten absences in a school year. The student population is predominantly White at nearly 87 percent, with smaller percentages identifying as Hispanic, Black or Asian.
