High school students in Coal City recently attended a Post High School Fair organized by the Student Services Department at Coal City High School. The event, held on October 2, was aimed at helping students in grades 9 through 12 consider their options after graduation.

The fair brought together representatives from colleges, trade organizations, businesses, and the U.S. military. Students had the opportunity to speak with these representatives about topics such as admission requirements, application deadlines, tuition costs, scholarships, areas of study, and campus life.

According to information from the Illinois State Board of Education, Coal City Community Unit School District 1 includes several schools serving Grundy and Will counties: Coal City Early Childhood Center, Coal City Elementary School, Coal City High School, Coal City Intermediate School, and Coal City Middle School (https://www.illinoisreportcard.com/). The district employs 153 teachers with an average salary of $69,297; about 78 percent are women and 22 percent are men. There are no teachers in the district with more than ten absences in a school year (https://www.illinoisreportcard.com/).

Demographic data show that the district is composed of approximately 87 percent White students, nearly 10 percent Hispanic students, and less than one percent each Black and Asian students (https://www.illinoisreportcard.com/). In 2020, spending per student was $21,619 for a total expenditure of $47 million (https://www.illinoisreportcard.com/).

The Post High School Fair provided an opportunity for students to gather information as they plan their futures beyond high school.
