Eighth grade English/language arts students at Coal City Middle School are concentrating on grammar and vocabulary in their current studies.
Students have finished a Unit 1 Grammar review as they prepare for an upcoming test. They worked together in groups to discuss strategies and help each other understand the material. The test will cover topics such as prepositional phrases, verb phrases, adverbs, infinitives, word usage, and organizational structure.
Vocabulary is also a main area of focus in the classroom. Students recently completed their Unit 17 Vocabulary Test and have started participating in the IXL Vocabulary Bowl. According to the school, some students are already making progress with the program. One student spent thirty minutes during homeroom learning the platform and has mastered seven words so far.
