Students at Coal City High School are participating in a new Zoology course led by Mr. Looper. The class has been studying various animal groups and conducting specimen dissections. Currently, the focus is on the regenerative abilities of flatworms. As part of their research, students are cutting planaria in different locations to observe which segments can regenerate into complete organisms.

Coal City Community Unit School District 1, which serves Grundy and Will counties, includes Coal City Early Childhood Center, Coal City Elementary School, Coal City High School, Coal City Intermediate School, and Coal City Middle School.
