Coal City High School golfer Jerry Carlson secured a place in the Illinois High School Association's Sectional Golf Tournament after finishing among the top 15 golfers at the IHSA Boys Golf Regional. The event was hosted by Coal City at Cinder Ridge Golf Course, where Carlson completed his round with a score of 84.
Coach Harlan Kennell expressed satisfaction with Carlson's performance, stating, “It was great to see a Senior have a great day and advance.”
The competition included 54 golfers, with other Coal City participants such as Jaxon Duke and Frankie Ponio narrowly missing advancement. Coach Kennell remains optimistic about the team's future prospects, saying, “I am excited for the future of Coaler Golf when we have two freshmen that were in contention for advancing.”
Additional team members who competed were Culan Lindemuth, Griffin Winke, and Trevor Perino. Reflecting on the event's atmosphere and venue, Kennell remarked, “It was a great day for golf and Cinder Ridge was a spectacular host for the event.”
Normal University High claimed victory in the nine-team tournament while Coal City finished seventh.
