High school library adapts spaces and collections for diverse student needs

As the 2024-2025 school year continues, Mrs. Peterson is enthusiastic about welcoming students to the high school library. The library features flexible, mobile, and modular workspaces available for individual use, whole classes, or group settings. This setup has already proven beneficial as Student Council members are using the library during CCT again this year. Mrs. Peterson, alongside Mrs. Vucsko and StuCo, dedicated the early part of the school year to organizing Homecoming 2024.

Freshmen English classes have been introduced to the library's services through an orientation aimed at fostering independence in their education. The orientation included a brief tour followed by a scavenger hunt designed to test their knowledge of the library's resources. Teams competed against each other with candy as the ultimate prize for winners.

Efforts are ongoing to diversify the library’s collection with works by minority and LGBTQ+ authors and include non-mainstream formats like anime and manga publications within its expanding graphic novels collection. At the start of every school year, Mrs. Peterson makes substantial book purchases; this year's new additions required overflow space due to their volume.

In pursuit of an intuitive structure for students exploring the library, Mrs. Peterson is continuously weeding both nonfiction and fiction sections while employing dynamic shelving principles. This approach allows more books to be displayed face-outward for improved access and appeal, significantly enhancing circulation and usability.

The CCHS library remains committed to adapting as necessary to meet student and staff needs effectively.
