Coal City Schools are hosting a variety of events this week, marking Red Ribbon Week from October 28 to November 3. Each day features themed activities across different school levels.
On Monday, October 28, students at the Early Childhood Center and Elementary School are encouraged to participate in Wear Red Day. Middle School students can enjoy Character Day, while High School students have Pajama Day. Sports events include Sixth Grade Basketball against Seneca at 4:30 p.m. in the Middle School Gym and Freshmen Football versus Manteno at 5:30 p.m. in the High School Stadium.
Tuesday, October 29 is Bike to School Day with Neon Day attire for Early Childhood Center, Elementary School, and Middle School students. High School students will observe Wear Red Day. Middle School Girls Basketball teams will play against Sandwich at 4:30 p.m., followed by Volleyball Regionals against Spring Valley Hall at 7 p.m.
The theme continues on Wednesday, October 30 with another Bike to School Day. Pajama Day is scheduled for the Early Childhood Center and Elementary School; Comfy Clothes Day for Middle School; and Sports Day for High School. The Middle School Girls Basketball teams face Troy at 4:30 p.m., followed by Haunted Hallways indoor trick-or-treating from 4:30-7 p.m. A Board of Education Study Session will be held at the Administration Center Board Room starting at 6 p.m.
Thursday, October 31 celebrates Halloween with Costume Day across all schools. The Early Childhood Center hosts an AM Preschool Parade at 10 a.m., followed by a Costume Parade at 1:45 p.m., while the Elementary Parade takes place earlier in the day at 12:45 a.m. The Volleyball Regional Championship is set for that evening at 6 p.m.
Friday, November 1 marks Coaler Friday with Coaler Football's first-round playoff game against Johnsburg scheduled for a kickoff time of 7:30 p.m. in the High School Stadium.
Concluding the week's events on Sunday, November 3 is Coal City Theatre Department's final performance of “Harry Potter and The Cursed Child: High School Edition” taking place at Coal City Performing Arts Center beginning at 2 p.m.
