In the eighth-grade Spanish class at CCMS, students have embarked on their first unit of the quarter titled "LA COMIDA," meaning "THE FOOD." Students are learning to express their preferences, order in restaurants, and describe food. One exercise involves asking, “¿Qué te gusta comer?” or “What do you like to eat?” As part of their assignments, students created Google Slides presentations featuring "Me gusta" (I like) and "No me gusta" (I don’t like) statements accompanied by images or GIFs. They presented these during Halloween while wearing costumes. Señora Aldridge commented on their performance: “They all did un trabajo fabuloso / a fabulous job!”
Seventh graders began with the unit "Yo soy / I am," focusing on self-description using adjectives. In Spanish, adjectives must agree in gender and number with the nouns they describe. Students completed an assignment involving Google Slides presentations with "Yo soy" (I am) and "Yo no soy" (I am not) statements, which they shared with the class to practice speaking Spanish. Señora Aldridge expressed her admiration for their pronunciation skills.
Sixth-grade students revisited basic Spanish concepts as they started the quarter. According to Señora Aldridge, “The last time these students were with me in Spanish class was in their first grade year.” Their initial lessons covered El Alfabeto (The Alphabet), Los Colores (The Colors), and Los Números 0-100 (The Numbers 0-100). An assignment required them to color hearts according to Spanish color words beneath them. Señora Aldridge reported that all students performed fantastically.
“¡Estoy muy orgullosa de todos de mis estudiantes! / I am very proud of all of my students,” she said.
