The kindergarten class taught by Mrs. Wren and Miss Jackman has been focusing on addition and subtraction within the number 10. Before the holiday break, students explored various strategies to tackle addition problems effectively. This month, they are enhancing their understanding of numbers by breaking them apart.

"Each day we begin our math lesson with a number talk, and our students have excellent conversations that revolve around counting, breaking numbers apart, and solving simple addition or subtraction problems," Mrs. Wren stated. "We have seen so much growth in their understanding and problem-solving skills since we began having these short number talks."

The math lessons conclude with games or activities aimed at reinforcing key skills. "Our number talks always end with a game or activity to practice an important skill, and I think we all agree when we say that's usually our favorite part of our math lesson! We play games like counting sparkle and addition fact around the world, and it is so fun watching everyone participate, practice, and encourage each other," Mrs. Wren added.

This week’s activities included creating equations using ten frames filled with hearts of two different colors. Students crafted projects where they wrote equations and connected numbers through number bonds. The children are diligently working each day to discuss problem-solving strategies with peers while improving their independent practice.
