The Coalers Speech Team participated in two tournaments on Saturday, achieving notable success with a first-place finish at the Heyworth Link Tournament and a second-place result at the Sandwich Invitational.
At the Heyworth event, several team members earned top honors. Jordan Olson and Olivia Sage secured first place in dramatic duet acting, Mason Natyshok won original comedy, and Olson also took first in prose. In the junior varsity category, Lilliana Aguirre claimed first place in special occasion speaking.
Other varsity medalists included Madison Wilson, who placed second in radio speaking and third in dramatic interpretation; Gray Vanek and Vincenzo Mugnolo, who achieved third place in humorous duet acting; Vanek again for third place in humorous interpretation; Deborah Lynch with third place in oratorical declamation and fourth place in informative speaking; Caroline Childers with third place in prose and sixth place in poetry; Corinna Barkley with third place in special occasion speaking; Lana Larson with fourth place in oratorical declamation; Juliet Covington with fourth place in original comedy; Lilliana Aguirre with sixth place in humorous interpretation; Grace Heatherwick with sixth place in informative speaking, and Xavier Baer finishing ninth in original comedy.
In junior varsity action, Wyatt Chase received a fourth-place medal for dramatic interpretation while Colin Schimandle finished seventh for oratorical declamation.
At the Sandwich Tournament, Charlotte Banks and Victorya Morales were awarded second-place medals for humorous duet acting. Isabella Palacios took second for poetry, while Charlotte Banks also received second for special occasion speaking. Gabby Van Duyne and Theo Fritz's performance earned them a second-place award as well. Additional recognitions went to Jolene Jones for third place in original oratory and fifth place in poetry; Aidan Meister for fourth places both extemporaneous speaking and original oratory; Liam Seeley for fourth position informative speaking, alongside Audrina Marshall and Grace Sitar who placed sixth together dramatic duet acting.
Looking ahead, the Coalers are set to compete at the Meta Valley Tournament on February 1st. This will be their final regular-season meet before they advance to state series competitions starting with the Regional Tournament at Bradley-Bourbonnais on February 8th.
