Students learn statistics and geometry concepts in Mr. Larson's math classes
Chad Larson Teacher | Coal City Middle School

In Mr. Larson's first-hour math class, students recently completed their statistics assessment. They learned how to calculate the mean, median, mode, and range, and examined data through dot, line, and box plots. By the end of the week, they began exploring the probability of single events. Students are starting to understand the probability model and differentiate between experimental and theoretical probability.

In Mr. Larson’s third and fourth-hour math classes, students are engaged in a geometry unit. They have calculated the area of triangles, circles, trapezoids, and hexagons. Currently, they are working on finding the volume and surface area of three-dimensional shapes. Next on their agenda is determining an unknown side of a right triangle using the Pythagorean theorem.
