Eighth graders work on literary analysis essays under guided instruction
Sharon Swink 8th Grade English | Coal City Middle School

Students in Ms. Swink's eighth-grade English classes are currently engaged in writing literary analysis essays. The teaching strategy involves dedicating entire class periods to this task, allowing students uninterrupted time for thinking and writing.

The process begins after students read the assigned texts and receive a prompt. Teachers guide them in crafting a thesis and preview statement using key words from the prompt. Students then present their statements aloud to the class, receiving feedback from their peers. Following this, they gather evidence, handwrite paragraph outlines, type, revise, proofread, and submit their essays.

Teachers provide lessons throughout the process to enhance students' writing skills and address areas assessed by the rubric.
