The Illinois Association of School Boards (IASB) annually recognizes board members for their commitment to learning and leadership activities provided by the association and for their service to the public education community.
Three members of the Coal City Community Unit School District 1 Board of Education were recognized through the IASB Leader Recognition Program. The awards were presented at the Three Rivers Division Meeting held at Manhattan Junior High School.
Board president Ken P. Miller earned recognition as an Established Board Leader, Quint Harmon, secretary pro tempore, earned recognition as a Distinguished Board Leader, and Shawn Hamilton, vice-president of the board of education, received the Distinguished Annual Merit Board Leader Award.
The recognitions are based on the number of points a board member earns for participation in IASB-sponsored programming including online classes, attendance at division and statewide meetings, serving as a voting delegate and participating in the annual delegate assembly, and attendance at the Joint Annual Conference held each November.
Established Board Leaders are those who achieve 200 points; Distinguished Board Leaders earn 400 points; and Distinguished Annual Merit is presented to those who earn 400 points with an additional 40 points within the year.
IASB provides its members and member districts with various opportunities for training and networking as well as information and advocacy.
