Eighth grade Spanish students at Coal City Middle School began the quarter with a unit focused on food, called “LA COMIDA.” Students learned vocabulary related to food, discussed their preferences, practiced ordering in restaurants, and described different foods. One classroom activity involved creating Google Slides presentations using “Me gusta” (I like) and “No me gusta” (I don’t like) statements, each paired with a picture or GIF. Students then presented their sentences to the class as part of their Spanish-speaking practice.
Seventh graders started the quarter with a unit titled “Yo soy / I am,” where they learned how to describe themselves using adjectives. The lessons included instruction on how adjectives must agree in gender and number with the nouns they describe. Students created Google Slides presentations featuring “Yo soy” (I am) and “Yo no soy” (I am not) statements, accompanied by images or GIFs. These were also presented to the class for speaking practice. Señora Aldridge commented, “Another great experience and it was so much fun to see how the students view themselves! I was very impressed with the students’ pronunciation of our Spanish vocab.”
Sixth grade students revisited basic Spanish concepts such as the alphabet, colors, and numbers from 0-100. For one assignment, students colored hearts based on Spanish color words written underneath them. Señora Aldridge said all of her students did wonderfully.
“I am very proud of all of my students!” said Señora Aldridge.
