Students in Mrs. Miller's fifth-grade class recently engaged in a Science STEM challenge designed to spark interest and learning. The task was to create a bubbling witch's brew using the fewest ingredients possible. Working in groups, students selected three ingredients from options such as crushed dragon teeth, eyeball juice, monster snot, and powdered bones.
After concocting their potions, the students shared their ingredient choices with one another and discussed both similarities and differences in their selections. This activity aimed to foster collaboration and critical thinking among the young participants.
The exercise continued with each student using an empty water bottle filled with a small amount of vinegar. They then attached balloons filled with baking soda to observe the chemical reaction when these substances combined. This part of the challenge served as an investigation into matter and how solids and liquids react together.
